Before leading Pima on an interim basis, Harris retired in 2011 from a post as chancellor of St. Louis Community College, which she led for four years. Before that, she led Parkland College in Champaign, Ill., for 16 years. Before that, she served as president of Penn Valley Community College in Kansas City, Mo.

Suzanne Miles, who temporarily led Pima Community College after the resignation of former chancellor Roy Flores, is abruptly resigning after 27 years at the school. Miles stepped down as interim chancellor in April, as the troubled college was placed on probation by accreditors, and assumed a position as president of the Community Campus. Read more» 3

Saying Pima Community College is a "fundamentally strong institution," the school's interim chancellor, Zelema Harris, released a public letter Wednesday in which she said, "I am here to get the College off to a good start. I am not here to keep the Chancellor's chair warm until a permanent successor is chosen. I have a job to do and I fully intend to do it." Read more» 2

Members of the Southern Arizona Leadership Council, a private group of local business leaders, plan to push the resignation of Pima College board members, and would back a recall effort if the longtime Governing Board members remain in office. The SALC joined PCC faculty and staff groups last week in asking the board to halt a search for a permanent chancellor for the school. Read more» 1

Pima Community College announced the selection of four chancellor finalists Saturday as the school seeks to pick a permanent leader by July. Pima has been without a permanent CEO for over a year, and the school was placed on probation by accreditors last week. Read more» 1

Pima Community College has been placed on probation by a national accrediting body, the Higher Learning Commission. The HLC announced the move Wednesday morning, saying it "took this action because of concerns related to integrity, financial management, personnel policies and procedures, shared governance, Board oversight of the institution, and systemic and integrated planning."
