Ned Norris Jr., chairman of the Tohono O’odham Nation, defends his tribe’s plans for a casino in Glendale. Norris told the Senate Indian Affairs Committee the project complies with all rules, which is why courts and the Interior Department have upheld the tribe’s plans.

Rep. Trent Franks, R-Glendale, testified Tuesday that a Glendale casino project by Tohono O’odham Nation could destroy a compact signed by all 17 Arizona tribes to limit casinos near Phoenix. He sponsored a bill that would stop gaming on the Tohono O’odham land in the metro area.
