Sophomore Joel Gardner (Ironwood Ridge HS) took 19th place out of 61 competitors (all NCAA Division I runners) at the Dave Murray Invitational. He finished the 8K (4.97 miles) with a time of 25 minutes, 08.2 seconds. The Aztecs finished with a team score of 153.

The Aztecs men's cross country team claimed the program's first NJCAA Region I Championship since 1981 on Friday as they edged out Central Arizona College by one point in the final team standings. Aztecs cross country and track & field teams signed Marissa Lopez, a distance runner and sprinter from Sahuarita High School. She has a personal-record this season in the 200 meter race at 30.15 seconds. She has PRs in the 400 meter (1:02.23), 800 meter (2:24.35), 5,000 meter (19:58.0) ans 3.2 mile (22:51.7) races.

Distance runner Mykayla Tarwater (Tucson Magnet HS) signed her letter of intent to compete for the Aztecs cross country and track & field teams starting in the 2020-21 season. She set a new personal-record in the 5K during the cross country season with a time of 23 minutes, 04.0 seconds. She also has PRs in the 800 meters (2:51.63) and 1600 meters (6:23.21).

New Aztecs cross country co-head coach and track & field assistant coach Alfred Shirley was elected to the ACCAC Conference Hall of Fame on Wednesday. He coached at Central Arizona College from 1998-2013 earning 13 team national championships. He was named to the NJCAA Hall of Fame in 2016.
