The ability to have a legal advocate has always been deemed a luxury by the undocumented. Unless you have money to hire a lawyer (a rare circumstance for a border crosser, young or old), or can somehow find one of the Good Samaritans who will work pro bono, you go into the courtroom alone, up against a government prosecutor.
