The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (4-4, 2-1 in conference) evened their overall record on Saturday, beating Phoenix College, 89-69.

Phoenix College had momentum on their side going into the game, having defeated No. 1 Mesa Community College on Wednesday, 56-52.

The No. 17-seeded Aztecs took the lead from the get-go and never relinquished it. They led by as much as 11 in the first half and grabbed 11 offensive rebounds to lead 40-31 at halftime.

Phoenix College came out more aggressive in the second half, cutting Pima’s lead to two points on a couple of occasions. But Felicia Foster (Peoria HS) found her stride from beyond the arc, knocking down two 3-pointers to put the Aztecs back up by 12 at 57-45. It was part of a 13-3 run.

Phoenix College would go on a 16-4 run later in the half to cut the score to 72-65 but that is as close as it would get. The Aztecs finished the game on a 17-4 run and closed it out with their largest lead of the game.

“A great team win,” Pima coach Todd Holthaus said. “It was probably our best 40-minute effort to this point.”

Raja Moreno-Ross (Tucson Magnet HS) couldn’t be stopped as she posted a double-double of 25 points and 15 rebounds. She scored 15 points in the first half. Alicia Jones (Palo Verde HS) had 13 of her 20 points also in the first half. She also grabbed eight rebounds. Felicia Foster finished the game with 16 points while Rachel Williams (Cesar Chavez HS) contributed with 10 points and four assists.

The Aztecs will play at Scottsdale Community College on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
