Aztec women's basketball falls in opener
The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (0-1) opened its regular season on Friday as part of the Pima/Tohono O’Odham Kickoff Classic at the West Campus.
The Aztecs fell 83-75 against Midland College (Texas); they were outscored in the second half 41-35. Pima led a majority of the first half and held one of its biggest leads when it went on an 8-0 run to take a 25-17 advantage. The Aztecs trailed 42-40 at the half.
Shayna Porter-Banks scored two points in the first half but scored six points early in the second half to give Pima a 47-46 lead and later a 50-48 advantage but Midland slowly gained the upper hand and led by as much as 10 points late in the second half.
The Aztecs had three players score in double figures. Alicia Jones (Palo Verde HS) scored a team-high 14 points while Porter-Banks finished with 12 points. Felicia Foster (Peoria HS) contributed with 10 points. Raja Moreno-Ross (Tucson Magnet HS) had nine points and seven rebounds for the game.
The Aztecs will play Quest Prep on Saturday at 7 p.m. to close out the Kickoff Classic.
