Pima women suffer first setback, drop match to Phoenix College

The Pima Community College women’s soccer team (5-1, 2-1 in ACCAC) suffered their first defeat of the season and also surrendered their first goals of the season.

The No. 1-ranked Aztecs fell to No. 2 Phoenix College 3-0 in a battle between the top two NJCAA Division II programs.

The Bears shocked the Aztecs with three goals in the first six minutes of the match as Pima fell 3-0. Anacel Acosta (3rd minute), Yesenia Lawson (4th minute) and Bailey Norris (6th minute) found the back of the net for the Bears.

The Aztecs finished with four shots on goal. Sophomore Angelina Amparano (Salpointe Catholic HS) closed out the game with 11 saves.

The Aztecs will return to the field on Tuesday when they play at Glendale Community College. Kick off is set for 7 p.m.
