Padres chewed up by Grizzlies, 10-2
Mitch Lively struck out a career-high nine batters and drove in two runs at the plate to help the Fresno Grizzlies to a 10-2 victory over the Tucson Padres Thursday at Kino Stadium.
Roger Kieschnick led off the top of the second with a towering home run over the right-field bullpen to put Fresno in front, 1-0. The Grizzlies added one more run in the inning on Lively's two-out RBI single. Jaff Decker brought around the Padres first run of the game with an RBI double in the bottom of the second. Fresno scored three runs in the third highlighted by Johnny Monell's ninth home run of the year.
Lively came up with his second RBI of the game in the fourth on a double to right, extending the Grizzlies lead to 6-1. Cameron Maybin launched his first home run for Tucson in the fifth to cut the deficit to four. Chris Dominguez drove in the next four runs for Fresno with an RBI single in the seventh and a three-run home run in the ninth. Dominguez finished the night with three hits and five RBIs.
Lively got the win and improved to 3-1 on the season after allowing two runs in six innings of work. Wilfredo Boscan was charged with his third loss for Tucson, surrendering five earned runs on eight hits, including two home runs in 3.1 innings.
