Aztec baseball swept at Yavapai College

The Pima Community College baseball team (21-23-1, 11-17 in conference) was swept by Yavapai College on Saturday in Prescott.

The Aztecs dropped the first game 12-5; Jake Cole (Sahuaro HS) took the loss and dropped to 3-5 on the season. Pima scored four runs in the fifth inning. Juan Gamez (Cienega HS) hit a two-run double, which was followed by a Devon Carrillo (Sahuaro HS) RBI single that scored Gamez. Carlo Tacchia (Sunnyside HS) contributed with an RBI double in the seventh inning.

The Aztecs dropped the second game 12-0 in seven innings. Cole Plouck (Empire HS) took the loss and he fell to 1-2 on the year. Plouck pitched 2 1/3 innings, giving up seven runs (five earned) with three strikeouts. Scotty Watson (Empire HS) pitched two and two-third innings giving up five runs (five earned) with one strikeout and Will Holbrook (Sabino HS) closed it out, pitching one inning with no runs and one strikeout. Carrillo, Gamez, Alec Beyersdorf (Catalina Foothills HS) and Cooper Smith (Canyon del Oro HS) each had a hit for Pima.

The Aztecs will play at Eastern Arizona College on Tuesday in Thatcher. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at noon.
