Pima women's tennis dominates play at Glendale CC
The Pima Community College women’s tennis team (4-3) dominated in its ACCAC conference match on Thursday at Glendale Community College.
The Aztecs beat the Gauchos 7-2 to earn the regular season sweep. Pima won 7-2 on Mar. 19 at the West Campus Tennis Courts.
Sophomore Ashley Fitzsimmons (Walden Grove HS) and freshman Valeria Miranda (Sunnyside HS) won their No. 2 doubles match 8-1. Freshmen Olivia Manheimer (Ironwood Ridge HS) and Melina Oropeza (Nogales HS) won their No. 1 doubles match by default. The Aztecs were forced to forfeit the No. 3 doubles spot.
In singles competition, Manheimer defeated Erin Sye 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Fitzsimmons earned her win at No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-0.
Miranda ousted Clara Di Russo in her No. 4 singles match 6-3, 6-1 while freshman Jazmin Nunez (Cholla HS) downed Maria Mendez at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-4.
Oropeza won her No. 2 singles match by default and the Aztecs were forced to forfeit the No. 6 singles match.
The Aztecs will close out the regular season on Tuesday when they host Paradise Valley Community College at the West Campus Tennis Courts. The match begins at 1:30 p.m.
