Plouck and Skuro no-hit Douglas in PCC baseball win
Aztec pitchers have not allowed a run in their last 22 innings
The Pima Community College baseball team (20-11) closed out the South Mountain CC Tournament on Saturday with another dominating pitching performance and a balanced offense. The Aztecs beat Douglas College (Canada) 10-0 in eight innings.
Cole Plouck (Empire HS) and Ben Skuro (Sabino HS) combined to throw a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts. Plouck picked up the win (2-2) and threw six innings with seven strikeouts and three walks. Skuro pitched the final two innings with four strikeouts and one walk.
The Aztecs pitching staff has not allowed a run to score in their last 22 innings. The offense has scored 46 runs in the last three games.
The Aztecs hit three triples in the game. Kellen Marruffo (Sabino HS) hit an RBI triple in the third inning to score Devon Carrillo (Sahuaro HS) to make it 3-0. A.J. Acosta (Douglas HS) led off the fourth inning with a triple and Jorge Maldonado Jr. (Nogales HS) brought him in with his RBI triple to make it 4-0.
The Aztecs scored four runs in the fifth inning to take control of the game. James Lynch, Acosta, Cooper Smith (Canyon del Oro HS) and Brandon Burke (Canyon del Oro HS) all drove in runs in the inning. Acosta finished 2 for 4 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Maldonado Jr. went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored while Carrillo was 2 for 4 with two runs scored.
The Aztecs finished the tournament with a 5-1 record and have won 10 of their last 13 games.
The Aztecs will get back to ACCAC conference play when they host a doubleheader against GateWay Community College at the West Campus on Tuesday. The games will be at noon and 2 p.m.
