Senior hits layup with 1.2 seconds left in Double OT
Tucson television station KWBA had to cancel its plans to show a ceremony honoring Arizona’s Nic Wise after UA’s game with USC on Saturday at McKale Center headed into overtime, then double overtime.
So Wise did a little showing off at the end, hitting another game-winning shot, scooping in a layup with 1.2 seconds left to give UA an 86-84 victory.
The Wildcats clinched at least fourth place in the Pacific-10 Conference at 10-8, but they won’t know who they’ll play in the Pac-10 Tournament until the rest of Saturday’s game are completed. UA is 16-14 overall.
UA got a tremendous break at the end of regulation when USC, up by three points, fouled Kyle Fogg on a 3-point attempt with 0.2 left. Fogg made all three free throws to tie it 69 and force overtime.
Wise missed a jumper that would have won it in overtime, but he came up big in the final seconds again. He finished with 15 points.
Fogg and Derrick Williams led UA with 18 points. Jamelle Horne had 16 and Solomon Hill had 12.
