La Fiesta de los Vaqueros

Photos: Tucson Rodeo winds up

A sold-out crowd of about 11,000 people cheered the winners of the 87th annual Tucson Rodeo on Sunday.

Top honors in bareback riding went to Will Lowe, who turned in 89 points on Hollywood Hills to upset Tilden Hooper's week-long hold on the top shelf.

Ethan Thouvenell finished steer wrestling in 4.6 seconds for a 19-second total on three runs for the win.

Wade Sundell held the lead all week in saddle bronc riding, and Sunday was no exception. He scored 88 points on Full Deck and took the overall win.

Ryan Jarrett tied down in 9.6 seconds for the daily and overall win.

Erich Rogers and Kory Koontz won the rodeo in team roping with 6.1 seconds Sunday and 21.3 overall.

Fallon Taylor won the day's honors in barrel racing with 17.34 seconds, but Reiney Hatch took the overall win with 52.53 seconds.

No one managed to hang onto a bull for a score Sunday, and Cody Samora's 90-point ride last weekend held for the overall best.

Tucson hosted 635 contestants, and $430,000 was paid out in prize money.

Bobby Mote finished as the overall winner of the rodeo, taking home money in two events: team roping and bareback riding.
