Lynch erupts in 2nd game as Aztecs split with South Mountain

The Pima Community College baseball team (9-7, 3-1 in conference) had a seven-game winning streak snapped, but responded in the second game to earn a split against South Mountain Community College on Tuesday at the West Campus.

The Aztecs took the lead in the second inning but South Mountain scored the game-winner in the fifth as the Aztecs lost 3-2 in the first game.

Juan Gamez (Cienega HS) had an RBI double to tie the game at 1-1 and Jaquese Moore (Marcos de Niza HS) hit a fielder’s choice RBI to score Gamez that put Pima up 2-1. Steven Still (Ironwood Ridge HS) went 2 for 4 with a run scored. Chris Kucko (Sahuarita HS) took the loss (1-3), pitching four and two-third innings while giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

James Lynch owned the second game as he fell a single short of hitting for the cycle in Pima’s 11-6 win. Lynch's biggest hit came in the seventh inning when he hit a solo home run with one out to give Pima a 7-6 lead that it would not be relinquished.

Lynch hit a two-run RBI triple in the first inning to tie the game at 2-2. He also hit a two-run RBI double as part of Pima’s four-run eighth inning. He finished the game 3 for 4 with five RBIs, three runs scored and a walk. Devon Carrillo (Sahuaro HS) was 3 for 5 with three runs scored while Gamez and Dan Kennon each scored two runs. Cole Plouck (Empire HS) picked up his first win of the year (1-0). He pitched four and one-third innings of relief giving up one run off one hit with six strikeouts and two walks.
