Aztec women's basketball charges back, but falls in 2OT

The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (15-13, 11-8) had a four-game winning streak snapped on Saturday at Mesa Community College but it didn’t go quietly as the Aztecs fell 86-81 in double overtime.

Pima overcame a 17-point first half deficit and would outscore Mesa 37-28 in the second half to force the game into overtime. Mesa would go on to take the second overtime period 13-8.

A’jha Edwards (Tombstone HS) posted her first 20-20 and 17th double-double of the year finishing with 22 points and 23 rebounds. DJ Davis (Tolleson HS) had 17 points while Rachel Williams (Cesar Chavez HS) contributed with 10. Ashlei Scott (Chandler HS) did her work on the defensive side with seven steals.

“Game for the ages,” Pima coach Todd Holthaus said. “A’jha and DJ did a great job. Hopefully we see them (Mesa CC) again in the playoffs.”

The Aztecs will have its final regular season home game of the season and honor their sophomores on Tuesday when they host Tohono O’Odham Community College at 5:30 p.m.
