FC Tucson: Chivas development team to play Desert Diamond Cup final
Top MLS club to face Mexican club; FC Tucson to drop out of final day.
Friday, FC Tucson announced that Chivas development team will play in the final of the FC Tucson Desert Diamond Cup. Chivas will take the spot of FC Tucson in the tournament and play the MLS club with the most points after the first three days of the tournament. The final is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 1.
Chivas development team is composed of young prospects that play in the Chivas Sub 20 and Premier Second Division, found among United Arab Emirates FIFA Sub 17 World Cup for Mexico goalkeeper Raul Gudiño and striker Marco Antonio Granados.
"Chivas de Guadalajara is world-class brand and we are very proud to host a club of such high prestige. This team represents the tremendous future of Chivas football and we are excited to stage the top MLS side of the FC Tucson Desert Diamond Cup against the rising stars of Liga MX," said the FC Tucson ownership in a press release.
Sporting Kansas City ended their annual stay in Tucson with a match against new second division side Indy Eleven on Friday. Claudio Bieler and C J Sapong each scored goals for SKC in their 2-1 win at Kino Sports Complex. Graham Zusi, just returned from U.S. national team duty, recorded an assist on Kansas City's second goal.
Saturday will feature a doubleheader. Houston Dynamo will take on the San Jose Earthquakes and their new badge at 3:30 p.m., and the Cascadia derby comes to Kino with a match between Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders at 7 p.m.. The matches will be at Kino North Stadium and tickets are available at FCTucson.com.
