Soccer: Dynamo grab lightning fast victory over Rapids
Scottish trialist Elliot gives team lead seconds after whistle blows
It didn't take long for the Houston Dynamo to grab the lead in their preseason match against the Colorado Rapids at Kino Sports Park on Thursday night. Calum Elliot scored off of a pass from Jason Johnson in the first minute. The men in orange never relinquished their lead and won the match 1 - 0.
Edinburgh-born Elliot is one of a gaggle of trialists with the squad. He has previously played for Scottish club Hearts of Midlothian, but last season plied his trade in Lithuania for Žalgiris Vilnius.
Minutes later, Elliot nearly scored again when he got behind the defense.
It was not until deep into the second half that Colorado had its first strong chance, but César Romero's shot went harmlessly wide of the goal.
Colorado will continue its quest for their first preseason victory on Saturday at 11 a.m. MLS Cup runner up Houston end their Old Pueblo stay with a match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC later that day at 4 p.m.
