Cats lost prize QB recruit to TCU
Departure of OC Dykes convinced Matt Brown to stay in Texas
The Arizona Wildcats have lost top QB prospect Matt Brown.
Brown decommitted from the Arizona football team on Monday and will instead head to TCU.
When Arizona Offensive Coordinator Sonny Dykes left to take the head coaching job at Louisiana Tech, Brown decided to stay closer to home, his dad, Bill told the Dallas News.
"He had a really good rapport with Sonny. He was pretty disappointed. But those kind of things happen."
Brown said he didn't immediately try to leave UA. He told the Arizona Daily Star that he tried to talk to Stoops but was unsuccessful.
"I was like, shoot, were they hiding something? I wasn't going to sit there and wait, and then be stuck somewhere where they were going to run the triple-option. I just didn't know where they were going to go."
Brown, from Allen, Texas, had a terrific senior year. He completed 149 of 235 passes for 2,412 and 24 TDs. He also rushed for 1,166 yards and 17 TDs.
