Saints' Bell is 25th ex-Cat to make the Super Bowl
Former UA players have made 42 appearances
Mike Bell became the 25th former Arizona Wildcat to be on the roster of a Super Bowl team when the New Orleans Saints won the NFC Championship game on Sunday.
The Saints will face the Indianapolis Colts in the Super Bowl on Feb. 7 in Miami.
Bell has appeared in 13 games for the Saints this year and has scored five touchdowns.
The Tolleson High School grad is in his fourth NFL season. He signed with Denver as an undrafted free agent in 2006 and played two seasons with the Broncos. He was released by Denver on July 21, 2008, then signed with Houston on July 31. He was waived by the Texans on Aug. 8, then signed with the Saints on Nov. 19.
Former offensive lineman Glenn Parker and ex-defensive great Tedy Bruschi hold UA’s record for most Super Bowl appearances with five.
Parker, now the host of “In The House” on 1290-AM in Tucson, never won a Super Bowl ring. He appeared four times with Buffalo and once with the New York Giants.
Bruschi, recently retired from the New England Patriots and now working for ESPN, played in five Super Bowls with the Patriots, winning four.
