Report: Cubs leaning toward staying in Mesa
Source close to Ricketts family says team will stay in Arizona
The Chicago Cubs are reportedly staying in Arizona, according to myfoxphoenix.com
A source close to the Ricketts' family said the club is 99 percent sure it will stay in Mesa, its spring training home for 57 years.
The Cubs had recently expressed an interest in moving to Naples, Fla., but Mesa Mayor Scott Smith recently said the city would build a new complex to keep the team in Arizona.
The Arizona Republic reported that fans at the recent Cubs Convention in Chicago expressed dismay that the team could leave the state.
"We love coming to Arizona. After so many years, we met and know so many people. It's like a big family reunion," Fred Immke, of Fairbury, Ill., told the Republic "If they go to Florida, I don't think I'll go."
