Bench scores 32 points as Lady Aztecs win
The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (11-8, 7-4 in conference) built a lead late in the first half and controlled the second in their 96-75 win over Glendale Community College on Wednesday at the West Campus.
The No. 15 ranked Aztecs hit 11 three-pointers for the game and got big production from the bench. The substitutes produced 32 points on the night, led by Adrianna Barrientez (Palo Verde HS), who finished with 11 points. Every bench player who entered the game scored for the Aztecs.
Alicia Jones (Palo Verde HS) gave the Aztecs their first double digit lead when she hit three free throws to make it 32-21 and Raja Moreno-Ross’ basket put Pima on an 8-0 run. The Aztecs led 50-34 at halftime. The Aztecs expanded on its lead in the second half and led by as much as 32 points.
Felicia Foster (Peoria HS) was perfect from the floor in the first half going 3 for 3 which included hitting two three-pointers as she scored 12 of her 19 points in the opening half. Moreno-Ross finished the game with 15 points while Melody McLaughlin (Mountain View HS) had 13 points. Jones scored eight of her 11 points in the second half.
The Aztecs will play at Eastern Arizona College on Saturday in Thatcher at 5:30 p.m.
