Jones drains 3-pointer to force OT but Lady Aztecs still fall

The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (10-8, 6-4 in conference) came back in the second half Saturday to force overtime after trailing Arizona Western College by double digits in the first half. The Aztecs fell 60-55 in Yuma.

Trailing 54-51, Alicia Jones (Palo Verde HS) drained a three-pointer with 5.6 seconds left to force overtime, but the Aztecs would score just one point in the extra period.

Pima trailed 24-12 at one point and were behind 30-22 at halftime but slowly chipped away and took a 45-44 lead with six minutes to go. They also led 47-44 with four minutes left as both teams went back and forth in the second half. There were 12 lead changes for the game.

Jones finished with 11 points but it was Raja Moreno-Ross (Tucson Magnet HS) who posted her seventh double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Felicia Foster (Peoria HS) had 11 points and Melody McLaughlin (Mountain View HS) had seven points and eight rebounds.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus on Wednesday when they host Glendale Community College at 5:30 p.m.
