I disagree that the game was a clunker. True, the Netherlands team’s attempt to disrupt Spain with physical play made for a lot of stops for kicks and cards, but I still found a lot to enjoy in the crisp one-touch passing and ball handling by Spain was a joy to watch. My wife, who knows nothing about soccer, loved the game, as well as the entire tournament.

Soccer is more fun to play than to watch, but at this level watching ain’t bad. I’m going to miss the beehive sound of the vuvuzelas, and I never thought I’d say that.
