With this 2-1 match, every dollar you give means another $2 to support local watchdog news. And the $3 your donation becomes can have the impact of $6, because of Report for America's support for our local journalists who are members of that program.
But, as they say on late-night TV, wait: there's more.
If you sign up to give monthly, NewsMatch and the Community Challenge Fund mean your monthly gift can have 36x the impact over the course of 2022 — the entire annual value of your monthly donation is eligible to be matched. Whether you give a one-time donation, or subscribe as a member of the Watchdog Club with a monthly contribution, donations of up to $1,000 per individual are eligible to be matched.
We're excited to share that we have this incredible opportunity to increase the impact of your donation with NewsMatch, a call to action to support nonprofit news organizations around the country, including the Sentinel.
The Loud Hound Partner Fund has made a special matching grant to selected nonprofit independent news organizations in Arizona, Wisconsin, Georgia, Nevada and Pennsylvania — which means your gifts to the Tucson Sentinel through Dec. 31 can be matched 2-1!
That effort is backed up by the leaders of our Community Challenge Fund, who've contributed a total of $20,000 to the Sentinel as part of our year-end campaign, in a challenge to other Tucsonans to meet a goal of another $20,000 in donations before the end of the year.
Those Challenge Fund leaders include: Edna Gray, Stephen Golden & Susan Tarrence, and David & Joy Schaller, with contributions of $2,500 to the Challenge Fund; Bill Roe, Marsha & David Irwin, Lorraine Glicksman, Bonnie Kay, Mari Jensen, Michael Racy, Sharon Bronson, Beth Borozan, and David Burke, each giving $1,000; Nina Trasoff, Jim & Shirley Kiser, Matt DeRienzo, JD Wallace, Andrea & Derek Rickard, Ann-Eve Dingell, and Joel Smith, with $500 gifts.
NewsMatch is designed to help fuel a surge in giving to local reporting and strengthen nonprofit newsrooms like the Sentinel. Loud Hound is a family foundation that is working to support journalism, democracy, and climate justice, which has added to our NewsMatch funding. The backing from the leaders of the Sentinel's Challenge Fund means your gift can now have even more impact, with your $100 donation becoming $300 in total support, and a new $20 monthly gift generating $720 for local journalism over the next year.

Doing real reporting isn't cheap. We invest all of our funding in our work — paying smart reporters and editors to dig up the truth, provide insight, and produce the public-interest journalism that is a vital hallmark of a healthy community.
Reporting from a local perspective is important, but it takes knowledgeable professionals who work hard to bring you (and your neighbors) solid local news with guts and love for Tucson. The Sentinel is a locally run nonprofit organization, and a recognized leader in local independent online news.
Your contribution will allow us to dig even deeper into Tucson's untold stories — with more watchdog investigations to hold our civic leaders accountable and more coverage that celebrates why we all love our Southern Arizona home. TucsonSentinel.com's independent investigative work takes a lot of time, money and hard work to report — not to mention deep local experience. But we do it because we know it matters — and we know our readers value our efforts.
Unlike legacy chain media operations that ship much of their money straight out of town as profits, and spend only a fraction of what remains on actually reporting the news, we put our revenues right into journalism. And in 2022, we plan on hiring even more reporters, and bringing you even more solid local stories you won't find anyplace else.
In addition to our IDEA reporter — Bennito L. Kelty covering stories about Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity and Access — we'll be adding a second Report for America corps member next year. With your help, this new full-time journalist will dig into the special Cultural Expression and Community Values of this community we love and call home.
At TucsonSentinel.com, our job is to bring you the truth. And the truth is, dogged reporting costs money — and keeping a free press free to read for everyone means we need our most loyal readers to pitch in.
That's where you come in.
We count on readers like you to help us pursue these important stories. If you value what we're doing and want to see TucsonSentinel.com continue and grow, please make your gift today.
Please join fellow Sentinel readers like our Community Challenge Fund leaders, plus Judith Wood, Dennis & Patricia DeConcini, Rand Carlson, Jim Glock, Randi Dorman, PK Weis, John Bernal, Donna Evans, David Yetman, Michael Piccarreta, Terry Cornelius, Chris Hostetter, Jonathan Rothschild, and so many others, and join the WATCHDOG CLUB today to support real local news.
We rely on Tucsonans like you

When you give to the Sentinel during December, your support for local nonprofit news will have even more impact, because of NewsMatch, Loud Hound, and our Community Challenge Fund leaders.
Since our founding 12 years ago, you've come to rely our reporting. A lot of Southern Arizonans have. No one covers local politics, public policy and border and immigration issues with the same skill, integrity and understanding as we do.
Local nonprofit independent media outlets like ours face significant challenges. We frankly struggle with resources and could certainly use another couple of capable reporters digging into what goes on in this town. Tucson needs that.
It takes a lot of energy and scrappiness to uphold the high quality of our reporting.
And it takes money. Our staff are talented professionals, some with decades of experience in investigative and community journalism. And maintaining our computers, website, cameras, replacing worn-out shoe leather and putting gas in trucks for trips through the desert adds to our costs.
To make things work, we rely on donations from readers like you. That's why TucsonSentinel.com needs your help with this tremendous opportunity.
That's right: each dollar you give to support truly local independent journalism about Tucson can be matched, 2-1. From now through the end of the year, NewsMatch will match your new monthly donation 12 times or double your one-time gift, all up to $1,000 per person.
If you sign up to contribute $20 or $40 per month as a Stringer or Correspondent-level member, NewsMatch will support us with $240 or $480 in recognition of your gift. Plus, thanks to our Community Challenge Fund, your gift right now means even more watchdog journalism!
And if you're already a WATCHDOG CLUB member, NewsMatch will still match any increase you make in your monthly gift, or your entire one-time gift, through December.
Will you please give today to invest in the news that you and your neighbors need?
Your gift — TRIPLED! With up to 6x the impact
You can help the Sentinel publish these important stories by becoming a member of the WATCHDOG CLUB today — your gift to our nonprofit newsroom can be TRIPLED by NewsMatch and the Community Challenge Fund right now! And, your donation can have up to 6 TIMES the impact because of Report for America's support of our IDEA and Culture & Values reporters!

P.S.
We don't often get an opportunity like NewsMatch. Please invest in the local news we need today.
Journalism is a vital public service in a democracy. Investigative reporting uncovers injustice, exposes corruption and holds officials accountable. Community reporting celebrates the unique nature of Tucson's people, reflecting our sense of place through a knowing lens.
We aim to provide both: to point out the things we all love about Southern Arizona, and point to possible solutions for what needs changing. We believe that just as an unexamined life is not worth living, an unexamined city is not worth living in. A smarter Tucson is a better Tucson.
But insightful reporting doesn't come free. Make your gift today — you may make a one-time contribution, or sign up for a monthly subscription that supports nonpartisan reporting year-round.
Just one more thing:
Do us a huge favor and help spread the word about TucsonSentinel.com by telling your friends and family about us, and why you believe truly independent local news is so vital. Thanks!
