Barber: Pause to honor those in uniform

On this Veterans Day, let us all pause to honor the men and women in uniform who have served the United States – in war and in peace.

These brave men and women stepped up when our nation needed their service. We must fulfill the solemn promises we have made to our service members, military families and veterans by ensuring they receive the support they deserve.

I have the privilege of representing 85,000 veterans who live in Southern Arizona. As you spend time with family and friends today, please take time to reflect on the extraordinary service of these and all veterans in our country.

The next time you meet a veteran or a man or woman in uniform, I urge you to thank him or her for their service and encourage others to do the same. They have earned our gratitude and deep respect.

This is a small gesture that goes a long way. They should know from our actions that each of us appreciate the sacrifices they have made in defense of our freedoms.

Ron Barber is the U.S. representative from Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District.
