On Memorial Day, Yuma Mayor Al Krieger professed disbelief that the United States's past military successes could have been possible with gay troops serving in combat.

Apparently referring to veterans, he said, "And I cannot believe that a bunch of lacy-drawered, limp-wristed people ... could do what those men have done in the past."
