Communications 101 for Big Oil

Before he became CEO of BP, Tony Hayward was a director of BP Exploration. Before that he was an exploration manager in Colombia, and he started his career as a geologist.

Corporate greenwash aside, Tony's career has been built on three words: drill, baby, drill.

Now, to be fair, BP is probably no worse than any other "energy company" that specializes in fossil fuel extraction, and it almost certainly is better than many, but the warm and fuzzy statements about "bearing full responsibility" that are trickling out of corporate headquarters have been balanced by reports of BP's lobbyists have been busy fighting safety regulation, and that its representatives are working the coast to get fishermen to sign liability indemnification papers.
