It's no time to end unemployment benefits

Stopping assistance would hurt economic recovery

Unemployment benefits are set to expire on December 31. Extending these benefits is critical because our economy remains mired in one of the worst labor markets since the Great Depression.

Well, I agree that times are tough and many folks are unemployed or underemployed. I can relate and sympathize, because I went through something similar when times were allegedly good.

But, here’s the thing…money doesn’t just come from nowhere. If the people are broke, then the government is (or at least should be) broke. While there is indeed a need, there’s no more money to give away…unless you want to raise taxes, in which case you’re taking even more from people who have even less, which makes things even worse on an aggregate level.
