Minimum employment with the minimum wage

With unemployment above 9 percent for more than 21/2 years, the last thing Arizona needs is a mandated increase in the price of labor. Yet, that is what we'll soon have when the state's minimum wage rises by 30 cents an hour, a result of a 2006 ballot initiative.

When you are barely getting by 25 or 35 cents an hour more makes a difference. I doubt you have ever walked in those shoes.

Good story. Good points. Market forces and market forces alone should determine wages. Capitalism. What would Adam Smith do?

That cuts both ways though…for market forces to work as they should, that would mean that employers have to pay their taxes, not hire border jumpers, and not collude with each other to keep wages low…
