Garcia lets Ducey skate in forgettable debate

Sticking to talking points only goes so far without substance

Sticking to talking points only goes so far without putting forth some substance, and challenger David Garcia effectively pulled his punches against Gov. Doug Ducey. The incumbent Republican's worried enough to endlessly repeat the URL of an attack website, but the Democrat continually let him slide.

Of course Garcia “performed as if he were weak on substance.” He doesn’t have any.

Such personality preening is fodder for the media but not very useful as a learning opportunity for voters or candidates alike.  More frequent, lengthier, more topic-specific forums and debates conducted on a continuous basis online and in comnunities beyond Maricopa County would certainly be in the interest of all Arizonans and candidates too. The State of Arizona has a broadband network that serves to one extent or another virtually every public agency in Arizona; many larger communities have their own. Why isn’t a fraction of their copious capacity being reserved for public discourse on policy, similar to the PlaceSpeak.com systems proliferating in Canada, where community counts for something? That would be a better use of our public media and public service dollars.
