Commenting on the white supremacist attack in Virginia that killed at least one and injured more than a dozen others, Sen. McCain said "neo-Nazis are, by definition, opposed to American patriotism and the ideals that define us as a people... (We) must come together to defy those who raise the flag of hatred and bigotry."... Read more»

We want comments to advance the discussion and we need your help. Debate, disagree, yell (digitally) or laugh, but do it with respect.
We won't censor your comments if we don't agree with you; we want viewpoints from across the political spectrum. We're dedicated to sparking an open, active discussion. We believe people with differing opinions can spark debate and effect change.

Comments that violate these guidelines may be removed. We reserve the right to make up the rules as we go along.
Commentors are solely responsible for the opinions they express and the accuracy of the information they provide. Users who violate these standards may lose their privileges on TucsonSentinel.com.
Sentinel editors can't read every comment. Trolls, spammers and other troublemakers can slide under the bridge. We rely on you to help maintain a healthy conversation - more than likely, you're reading these comments before the editors.
What if you see something inappropriate? Use the 'Flag' button to send it to a moderation queue. Help us out and tell us why you're reporting it; please don't report someone just because you disagree with them. Boy who cried wolf and all that. We'll take appropriate action on violations.
We will not edit comments to alter their meaning or censor comments because of political content.
We will not remove comments solely because they are heartless, cruel, coarse, foolish or just plain wrong. Your disapproval can maintain a decent signal to noise ratio. Ultimately, however, self-policing is the best method.
Bottom line, don't be a jerk.

THESE TRYING TIMES: “The Walking Dead”
Have you ever noticed how the eyes of racists, dictators, despots look “dead”? That’s what hate does to people.
Hate kills the innocence and the unconditional love we are all born with. Hate destroys compassion, empathy, kindness, tenderness, sympathy, mercy, and gentleness towards one another.
Hate is a learned behavior. It is role modeled. It is systematically taught.
Hate is praised. Hate is preached in “churches.” Hate is joked about. Hate is written. Hate is read. Hate takes control over speech with curses, name calling, and slurs.
Hate is “beaten” into the soul, until nothing but death looks out through the eyes, until hands turn into fists and feet into weapons. until clubs and guns and shields are worn like accessories, until a muscle car is turned into a projectile rocket guided by a 20-year-old dead-eyed monster, who thought it was his right to injure human beings and kill an innocent young woman, a young woman who, in her short three decades of life, did more for her fellow human beings, than the totality of all the good deeds done by all of the hate mongers assembled in Charlottesville, Virginia, USA on August 12, 2017.
Don’t fear the walking dead. Stand up and fight them at every turn. Don’t believe them, no matter who they are, no matter their disguise. Do not let them win. Resist until your last breath. The life of Heather Heyer is worth it. Humanity is worth it. America is worth it. Our very souls are worth it.
