Lies, damned lies and a useless media

Donald Trump is a liar. Sorry, Trumpeters, that's not my opinion; it's fact. Hillary Clinton is a liar. Sorry, Clintonistas, that's not my opinion; it's fact. And the mainstream media is useless.

Not a bad commentary.

If I had to venture a guess, I think the single thing that is screwing what we used to consider journalist integrity is that bean counters own the media outlets instead of actual journalist FAMILIES that live in the communities (country?) of the operations cited in the opinion.

Not an excuse, but the only way that will change is if all the corporate media demigods lose their collective shirts.
That will hurt a ton of great people working for them…but as far as pain for the greater good….I don’t see any other way out of this mess.

I think you are generally correct. But I think the NYT in particular needed to have a little more courage and just focus on refining new business models. They essentially missed what would have been a very profitable niche by not just staying put when everyone else jumped into surface sensationalism. There will always be a role for good, credible journalism, and people who value it will pay for it.

In other words, the herd left them, in time the grass would have regrown, but they decided to keep moving with the herd and eating brown, trampled grass like diligent little sheep.

Meanwhile, a bootstrapped lil’ startup in Tucson scoops NYT and the rest of the legacy big dogs on a Supreme Court story…

The unbiased “courage” train left the station of the Times and WaPo a few years back.

If being unbiased was profitable…they would never have stopped being so.

That’s what scares me.
