4 terror suspects arrested in Sweden

Group arrested near arts center

Authorities in Sweden said police arrested four people on Sunday, on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack.

It is understood the four were detained in the west coast city of Gothenburg, Sweden's second-largest city, but media reports said police had offered few details.

The arrests followed the evacuation of the city's Roda Sten arts center overnight because of a terror threat, reported the BBC.

TT, the Swedish news agency, said the four were detained near the arts center.

Several hundred people had been celebrating the opening of an international contemporary arts festival when police ordered them to leave the building.

Head of the center, Mia Christersdotter Norman, told The Associated Press:

Around midnight I was called out by the police and they said there was a threat to the building and asked us to quietly stop the party, which we did and everyone left.

Police have searched the building but they didn't find anything.

It was not clear whether the arrests were linked to the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in the United States.
