close the border. Armed troops with a strangle hold on the border shutting down all drug activity and illegal border jumping. Its the only sensible thing to do. Why wouldnt any american citizen want this to happen/  Only criminals and misguided liberal bleeding heart stockholm syndrome fools want a porous border.  With no force, things will only get worse.  As things get worse, the continued violence will start to affect everyone in USA, it already is in so many ways. Close the border. It can be done.  It should be done.

I’ve often wondered why we puts so many military bases in the middle of the country instead of on the border.

@hoytherndon

Military bases are distributed about the country mainly to make support for the Defense Department budget in the best interest of each member of Congress. If defense spending equals jobs in your district, you won’t be likely to vote for cuts.

During the early years of the Cold War, many Air Force bases and missile installations were located in the center/south of the country to make them less vulnerable to Soviet attack. That’s why we had missiles located here: ICBMs have to fly over the Arctic, and we’re a bit of a ways from there.

Since the U.S. hasn’t faced the serious possibility of invasion since our last war with the United Kingdom (and, in fact, fought internal wars throughout the 19th Century), placing bases on our borders had little strategic value.
