The fact is Bernie is very accurate. If these people had adequate retirement income they wouldn’t need these benefits which are subject to the whims of sleazy elected officials like Martha McSally who are being supported by people like the Koch brothers who want to eliminate these benefits.  Sure looks like you are minimizing the hardships. If you think it is easy to qualify for these benefits even if you know you meet the qualifications it can be a nightmare of jumping through hoops
