Factcheck: The NSA and Sept. 11

In defending the NSA’s sweeping collection of Americans’ phone call records, Obama administration officials have repeatedly pointed out how it could have helped thwart the 9/11 attacks: If only the surveillance program been in place before Sept. 11, 2001, U.S. authorities would have been able to identify one of the future hijackers who was living in San Diego.

Thank you for this story.

I think, and have thought for years, that the terrorists succeeded in more ways than one on 9/11. They changed our country in so many ways, and not for the better. They have made it so our Constitution is selectively observed. They have manipulated our mass media to garner sympathy for their idiotic causes from some of our own people.  They have made it so good-old-fashioned common sense no longer applies at the airport, like someone wanting to take shampoo with them on a trip for example. So many in our own country wants to disarm our own citizenry, making us even more vulnerable to future attacks. They have created an environment where these recorded phone calls will just be blown off, and everyone involved in their authorization will get off scot-free. Hell, they have contributed to creating an environment where our own president is so much of a pussy that he didn’t release photos of a dead Bin Laden because he was scared of what might have happened as a result.

I find it truly sad and regrettable that so very few of my countrymen can see what I’m seeing. The only way to truly defeat the terrorists is to return our society, in every way (including at the airport) to a pre-9/11 state. It is time we put our country back the way it belongs. Until we do, the terrorists will be winning.

Ben Franklin said that he who would sacrifice a little liberty to gain a little security would have deserve neither and lose both. He was absolutely right about that.
