Applications for benefits jumps to six-week high

New applications for weekly unemployment benefits jumped last week, the U.S. Labor Department reported Thursday, rising to a six-week high of 399,000 in the week ending Jan. 7, a 24,000 increase on the previous week’s total of 375,000.

The administration said that based on the latest economic data, it now expects the unemployment rate to end the year at 9.1%, which is where it stood in July. The jobless figure for August will be released Friday with accompanying statistics on job creation. should this be a good news for those who are currently unemployed?. Anyway being jobless could really be one of the worst scenario anyone could have. I’m employed but still I need to take out payday loan most f the time to make the ends meet, what more for those who are totally out of job. Economists said the White House’s latest forecast was far more realistic than its earlier projections. But even the new one may be overstating growth and understating unemployment, some said.
