Missing man with dementia found after 2-day search

A 65-year-old man who went missing from his group home near Interstate 10 and West Speedway on Monday was found safe Wednesday morning. Dennis Cahill, who climbed over the fence of the property, has dementia and gets lost easily, authorities said.

Cahill was found "in good health" when a citizen spotted him at a convenience store at West Grant and North Oracle roads, said a Tucson police spokeswoman. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Cahill left the group home facility in the 1500 block of North Yavapai Street around 3:30 p.m. Monday, scaling the locked fence, said Sgt. Kimberly Bay. Police issued a silver alert about the missing man on Tuesday night.

Cahill has only lived at the home since November, and "is not familiar with the area," she said.

He was seen around 7:30 p.m. Monday near Speedway and North Silverbell Road, and was also spotted near Silverbell and West Grant Road, Bay said.
