A Nogales, Sonora, man was sentenced to six years in prison for illegal entry of a felon, U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced Friday.

Yaroslav Romero Vega, 36, was sentenced in federal court on Dec. 19, the Border Patrol said.

Romero was arrested by Ajo Station agents on June 18 for attempting to illegally enter the country. A background check at that time showed he was convicted for possession of drugs with intent to sell in 2000 and was sentenced to five years in prison, the Border Patrol said.

Following his sentence for illegal entry, Romero will be formally removed from the country and banned for life from all U.S. legalization processes, the Border Patrol said.
