American faces human smuggling charges

A summary of Border Patrol activities in the Tucson Sector over the past 24 hours, provided by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.


Tucson Station agents working the S.R. 86 checkpoint Wednesday discovered two Mexican nationals hidden in the trunk of a vehicle driven by a U.S. citizen. All occupants were arrested. The driver faces federal smuggling charges and the illegal immigrants were processed for removal.

Ajo Station agents apprehended a male from Michoacan, Mexico, on Wednesday near the Lukeville Port after he illegally entered the country. The man admitted to being a member of the East Side Wet Back Power 21st street gang in Phoenix. He faces federal prosecution for illegal entry.

In a separate incident Wednesday, Ajo Station agents found 11 bundles of marijuana and arrested one suspected smuggler near S.R. 56. The marijuana weighed about 530 pounds with an estimated value of $265,000. The suspect faces federal smuggling charges.

Nogales Station agents arrested a man from Baja California, Mexico on Wednesday after he entered the United States illegally. During a background check, the man was found to have a rape conviction in Los Angeles in 1988. He faces federal prosecution and removal.
