TPD: Info sought on East Side shooting death

A 22-year-old man died after being shot Wednesday night on Tucson's East Side, and police are seeking the public's help in tracking down a light-colored car and its occupants in connection with the incident.

Around 7 p.m., police were called to an apartment complex on Camino Seco, just north of Broadway, a Tucson Police Department spokesman said.

Officers found a man "with obvious signs of gunshot trauma" on the ground in a parking lot on the north side of the complex, Ofc. Chris Hawkins said. The man, identified as Arturo Castillo, was taken to Banner University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Witnesses told investigators that Castillo and at least one other person were involved in an "altercation," Hawkins said.

That person, and perhaps others, "fled the scene in a light-colored sedan," he said. "The vehicle is missing its rear driver's side window and possibly has additional damage from the gunshots."

"Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 88-CRIME," Hawkins said. "We are particularly asking for auto-body repair shops to contact us if they come in contact with any vehicles matching this description. You can remain anonymous."
