Brewer: Flags at half-staff for slain Mesa soldier

Flags at state office buildings should be flown at half-staff on Monday in honor of a soldier from Mesa who died in Afghanistan on Friday, Gov. Jan Brewer said.

She asked that others flying flags join in the gesture of respect from sunrise to sunset.

U.S. Army Spc. Wyatt J. Martin, 22, died Friday in Parwan Province of injuries from a roadside bomb, according to reports.

Wyatt was assigned to A Company, 3rd Engineer Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

"Please join me in offering a prayer for Spc. Martin, for his loved ones, and for all the men and women who have risked and given their lives to preserve and protect freedom throughout the world," Brewer said in a press release.
