TPD: Fatal shooting may be gang related
A 23-year-old man was killed early Tuesday morning in what Tucson police said may be a gang-related incident. Jacob Edward Luna died in the area of East Pastime Road and North 1st Avenue just before 1 a.m., authorities said.
Luna was found with "obvious signs of gunshot trauma" sitting in a parked vehicle in the 700 block of Pastime, near 1st Avenue between Prince and Roger roads, after multiple reports of shots fired around 12:45 a.m., police said.
Officers and then Tucson Fire Department personnel gave him first aid, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, said a department spokesman.
Luna, whose family was notified of his death, had gang affiliations, and TPD's Gang Unit is investigating the shooting, said Sgt. Pete Dugan. No suspects are in custody, and "it is still uncertain if the shooting itself was gang-related," he said.
"As detectives continue to investigate leads, they are asking anyone with information to please call 911 or 88-CRIME," he said.
