HSL adds Williams Center Hampton Inn to local hotel holdings

HSL Properties has added another hotel to its Tucson-area real estate holdings, buying the Hampton Inn at the Williams Center for $8.2 million.

The company plans to fix up the 101-room hotel at 251 S. Wilmot Rd., representatives said.

HSL now owns nine hotels, including the Ritz-Carlton at Dove Mountain and El Conquistador Tucson resorts, with more than 1,700 guest rooms in total.

HSL is also building new Hampton Inn hotels in Marana and Rita Ranch.

Company founder Humberto Lopez recently said that plans to re-open the Hotel Arizona, on West Broadway in Downtown, are still on hold.

"I am working with the city but not getting far," he told TucsonsSentinel.com, describing the facility as "a different animal than the limited-service hotels being built."

The 300-room hotel next to the Tucson Convention Center has been shuttered since 2012. The year prior, while trying to work out a deal for a city subsidy, Lopez reported that 70 of the Hotel Arizona's 300 rooms were unrentable because of necessary renovations.

In 2011, Lopez purchased the neighboring La Placita Village office complex, which earlier this year was demolished to build a mixed-use apartment/retail complex, The Flin.
