2,659 Arizonans need to claim tax refunds

IRS has more than $4.5 million for taxpayers

The Internal Revenue Service is looking for 2,659 Arizona taxpayers.

Not to worry, in this case, the IRS wants to give tax return checks that were sent back due to mailing address errors.

Arizona has $4,589,412 in undelivered tax returns, which average $1,547 this year, according to an IRS press release.

Nationally, there is an amount of $153.3 million that needs to go out to 99,123 taxpayers, the IRS said.

If you still are waiting on your tax refund, the IRS has a ‘Where’s My Refund’ tool that allows taxpayers to check the status of their refund, and gives them instructions on how to receive their checks. Taxpayers can also check at (800) 829-1924.

To put an end to returned tax refunds, the IRS urges citizens to receive their refunds through direct deposit and to file taxes electronically.

Last year, more than 78.4 million Americans chose to receive their return through direct deposit. This also allows to split the refund up into multiple financial accounts, or to buy a savings bond, the IRS said.

Also last year, eight in 10 taxpayers chose to file electronically. This prevents documents from getting lost in the mail, and is an easy, fast, and safe way to file taxes, the IRS said.

The IRS does not send emails about unreturned taxes.

The only way to check on the status of a tax return is thought the IRS 'Where's My Refund' tool. In order not to be a victim of  phishing scams that ask for personal information, the IRS urges individuals not to download attachments or to reply.
