BP arrests 2, seizes more than 1,700 lbs of pot

Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents seized more than 1,700 pounds of marijuana and arrested two people in separate incidents Monday, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol said.

Willcox Station agents patrolling near Huachuca City stopped a pickup truck and, with the help of a Border Patrol canine, found 231 pounds of marijuana stashed in a hidden compartment under the truck’s bed, the Border Patrol said.

Agents arrested two people in the truck and seized the drugs, valued at $115,500. The suspects face federal drug smuggling charges, the Border Patrol said.

Casa Grande Station agents found an abandoned pickup truck near Stanfield loaded with more than 1,500 pounds of marijuana and worth $775,000, the Border Patrol said.

The drugs were to be turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
