Pedestrian struck and killed near Desert Diamond Casino

A man died early Saturday after he was struck by a car in the area of East Los Reales Road and South Nogales Highway, authorities said.

Just before 3 a.m. Pima County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a pedestrian who had been struck by a car near Desert Diamond Casino, 7350 S. Nogales Highway, a department spokesman said.

Carlos Flores, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Deputy Cody Gress.

Witnesses told detectives that Flores was seen leaving the casino when he was struck by a maroon car traveling northbound on South Nogales Highway, Gress said.

The driver, 19-year-old Miguel Cano, stayed at the scene and cooperated with detectives. Impairment did not appear to be a factor, Gress said.

The investigation is ongoing.
