Pima GOP chair Beard won't run again

Bill Beard, the chairman of the Pima County Republican Party, announced Monday that he won't seek another term heading up the local branch of the GOP.

"I have come to the conclusion that I will not be submitting my name to run for chairman," Beard said in a Facebook post. His two-year term ends in December.

"I look forward to supporting the next set of officers with renewed respect and enthusiasm. I will continue to support our local candidates and our elected leadership," Beard said.

Responding to a query from TucsonSentinel.com, Beard said his reasons for not running again were "nothing too complicated."

"It takes a lot of time, energy and resources to be the chairman," he said. "The average lifespan of a Pima County Republican chair in the last few decades is less than two years. I've beat the average."
