Police seek driver in fatal hit-and-run

Tucson police are searching for a driver involved in a hit-and-run incident that killed a 59-year-old man Thursday night, authorities said.

Shortly before 11 p.m., officers responded to a report of "a man down" in the 1100 block of West Prince Road, east of North Flowing Wells Road, where they located a man who appeared to have been hit by a vehicle. He was taken to Banner-University Medical Center, where he died a short time later, a police spokesman said.

Traffic detectives concluded that the man was likely crossing Prince southbound either in or near a crosswalk when he was hit.

As detectives continued their investigation, they located specific evidence leading them to believe the vehicle involved is a pearl black 2012-2015 Hyundai Elantra. The vehicle will probably have front end damage to the passenger side, which includes a damaged headlight and a side view mirror, said Sgt. Pete Dugan.

The dead man was identified as Randy W. Herzog.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME, Dugan said.
