Ducey: Flags at half-staff to honor slain Show Low officer

Flags at state office buildings will be flow at half-staff to honor Show Low Police Officer Darrin Reed, who died after a shooting Tuesday, Gov. Doug Ducey has ordered.

Flags will be lowered Wednesday through sunset Thursday, the governor said.

Reed, 50, died after being shot when he responded to report of a disturbance. The man who authorities say shot Reed was shot and killed by police officers during a six-hour standoff in which the gunman, Daniel Erickson, held a 15-year-old girl hostage.

"This tragedy is nothing less than a deeply humbling reminder of the sacrifices that police officers make each and every day to keep our communities safe," Ducey said.

"I urge all Arizonans to join me in keeping Officer Reed, his family, and all of our state’s law enforcement officers in our prayers," the governor said.
